Planning an event? Let’s talk space.

One of the first questions we hear at Springbok is: “How big a stretch tent do we actually need?” It’s a fair question - the right size tent makes the difference between a smooth-

flowing party and a squeeze that feels like rush-hour on the Tube.

This guide breaks down tent sizes for different guest counts, seating layouts, and event styles, so you can pick confidently and focus on the fun.

Why stretch tents are different

Unlike boxy marquees, stretch tents are flexible. Their free-form design means you can tweak layouts to fit gardens, courtyards, or open fields. A tent can be rigged high and airy for mingling, or lower and cosier for dinners. That flexibility means the same tent can feel completely different depending on the setup.

Rule of thumb: space per person

Here’s a simple guide used across the industry:

  • Cocktail / standing: 0.5–1m² per person

  • Banquet seating (trestle tables): 1–1.2m² per person

  • Cinema / ceremony style seating: 0.75–1m² per person

It’s not an exact science - but it’s a reliable starting point.

Stretch tent size guide by guest count

For 30-50 guests

  • Recommended tent: 6x8m (48m²) or 8x10m (80m²)

  • Best for: intimate weddings, private garden parties, small corporate gatherings

  • Layout: banquet seating for 24–38 people, or space for 50 standing with a small bar/dance area.

For 80-120 guests

  • Recommended tent: 10x12m (120m²) or 10.5x15m (158m²)

  • Best for: medium weddings, milestone birthdays, team events

  • Layout: 60–75 seated banquet style, or up to 100 standing comfortably.

For 150-200+ guests

  • Recommended tent: 12x15m (180m²) or combined modular tents

  • Best for: large weddings, festivals, charity events

  • Layout: banquet seating for around 90 guests, with flexibility to add lounge areas, bars, or staging.

Why size isn’t everything

Bigger isn’t always better. A tent that’s too large can feel empty, while a well-fitted one feels intimate and atmospheric. That’s where stretch tents shine: their adaptability means they can be pitched snug against a wall, opened wide on sunny days, or enclosed with sides if the weather turns.
